LAKE PLACID - State police are investigating a possible fatal overdose at a local motel here.

Few details have been provided so far, but a state trooper told the Enterprise Monday night that the body of a woman had been found in a room at the Alpine Motor Inn on Wilmington Road in Lake Placid and that the woman may have died from a drug overdose.

Ray Brook-based state police Investigator Jeremy Viele, who's handling the case, declined to comment on it, other than saying it was an unattended death that was still under investigation.

Village police Sgt. Chuck Dobson said his department was dispatched to the scene at 4:34 p.m. and assisted the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service until the case was turned over to state police.
