SARANAC LAKE - Village police are asking for the public's help in investigating a stolen sport utility vehicle.

Village Police Chief Bruce Nason said a 1998 red Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen from the parking lot of an apartment building on River Street sometime early Thursday morning. The keys had been left inside the vehicle, Nason said.

The SUV hit a utility pole on Shepard Avenue and slid off the roadway, and was eventually and abandoned on Pine Street, near Brandy Brook Avenue.

Police are still looking for the suspect in the theft. Anyone with information about the incident, or may have seen or heard anything in and around River Street, Shepard Avenue, Helen Street, Pine Street and Brandy Brook Avenue is asked to contact the police department at 518-891-4422.
