Boil order lifted in Saranac Lake

February 21, 2013

SARANAC LAKE - A boil-water order for part of downtown was lifted around 2:30 p.m. today, the village announced.

The boil order had been in effect for apartments and businesses on Broadway between Dorsey Street and Bloomingdale Avenue, due to water line breaks Friday beneath that part of Broadway. Village crews repaired the last break Tuesday.

The boil order was a precaution since air got into the system when the water was shut off. Two consecutive daily samples must show no bacteria contamination before a boil order can be lifted. Until then, people were supposed to boil this area's water for one minute before drinking it or using it for tooth-brushing, dish washing, preparing food or making ice.
