Lake Placid High School Winter Carnival royalty bios

The Lake Placid High School Winter Carnival, which officially kicked off Thursday morning, celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. The following are the biographies of this year's carnival royalty:

Kendra Manning is the daughter of Daniel and Melissa Manning of Jay. She was born in Plattsburgh and attended St. Agnes School. She has two brothers, Connor and Nate, and a dog, Scout. Kendra's hobbies include skiing and running. She is a member of the Varsity Club, National Honor Society, Key Club and Environmental Club and is a reporter for the Blue Bomber Times. Kendra plays soccer and hockey, and competes in track. After graduation she plans to pursue her interests in law or dentistry.

The Lake Placid High School Class of 2013’s Royal Court for the 70th Winter Carnival includes queen candidates Kendra Manning, Joan O’Leary, Brooke Reid and Christina Stanton and king candidates Keegan Barney, Eddie Kane, Kyle Shipman and Tyler Willis. The king and queen will be announced at Feb. 2’s coronation ceremony.

Joan O'Leary is the daughter of Richard and Linda O'Leary of Lake Placid. She was born in New York City and attended St. Agnes School. Joan has two younger sisters, Georgia and Victoria, and two cats, Darla and Pumpkin. Her hobbies include writing, reading, hiking and anything to do with theater. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club and is editor of the Blue Bomber Times. She plays tennis and has authored and produced several murder mysteries for LPHS as well as other local drama productions. She plans to attend college and study production management and theater with a minor in business administration. Her goal is to continue to grow her company, Greenwood Street Basement Productions.

Brooke Reid is the daughter of Brock and Jennifer Reid of Lake Placid. She was born in Saranac Lake and attended Lake Placid Elementary School. She has one younger brother, Jay, and a dog, Bogey 7. Brooke is interested in all kinds of sports. She is a member of the Key Club and the Varsity Club and plays soccer, hockey and softball. After graduation she will attend college and is undecided about her career path.

Christina Stanton is the daughter of Lee and Pat Stanton of Lake Placid. She was born in Plattsburgh and attended St. Agnes School. She has two sisters and one brother: Meg, Laura and Lee, and a dog, Bootsie. Christina enjoys working on the fall plays, murder mysteries, musicals and choreographing for Greenwood Street Basement Productions. She is Student Council president and a member of the National Honor Society and Women's Ensemble. Christina participates in volleyball and track. She plans to continue her interest in business administration in college.

Keegan Barney is the son of Jennifer Barney of Jay and Matt Barney of Lake Placid. He has two sisters and two brothers: Payton, Eliza, Griffin and Levi. Keegan was born in Saranac Lake and attended Lake Placid Elementary School. He enjoys hanging out with his friends and participates in hockey, soccer and tennis. After graduation, Keegan plans to join the United States Navy and train as a machinist's mate.

Eddie Kane is the son of Rob and Nancy Kane of Lake Placid. He has one brother, Robbie, and a sister, Hannah. Eddie was born in Plattsburgh and attended Lake Placid Elementary School. He enjoys all types of sports and plays hockey, soccer and baseball. He is planning to attend college after graduation.

Kyle Shipman is the son of Robin Shipman of Lake Placid and the late Steve Shipman. He has two older brothers, Keith and Craig, and two sisters, Cameron and Brooke. He was born in Saranac Lake and attended Lake Placid Elementary School. Kyle enjoys hiking and hanging out with his friends. He volunteers in the community and is a regular participant in the Relay for Life. Kyle plays hockey and soccer. He is planning to join a military service after graduation.

Tyler Willis is the son of Kevin Willis of Wilmington and the late Cathy Willis. He has one older brother, Cameron. Tyler was born in Plattsburgh and attended Lake Placid Elementary School. He enjoys skiing and mountain biking and plays soccer. He plans to pursue his interest in engineering at college after graduation.
