SARANAC LAKE - Ice Palace workers are restoring the structure today after a mid-week thaw damaged many of the walls.

Dean Baker, chairman of the Winter Carnival Ice Palace Committee, said this morning he's unsure of exactly when the palace will be opened to the public.

"We won't know until tonight," Baker said. "We're in the process of redoing what we already did."

He and other volunteers hope to have it open in time for Saturday's lighting ceremony and fireworks.

Baker said they are in good shape in terms of volunteers helping today and are expecting help from state prisoners from Moriah Shock Incarceration Facility.
