LAKE PLACID - A 37-year-old Lake Placid man faces two misdemeanor charges for allegedly choking a woman early Tuesday morning.
Village police arrested Derek A. Patterson at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday and charged him with second-degree unlawful imprisonment and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation. Both are class A misdemeanors.
Police Sgt. Chuck Dobson said the arrest was made after the woman reported a domestic dispute to police. He said Patterson restrained the woman and obstructed her breathing by applying pressure to her throat.
"The victim did report difficulty breathing while the defendant was applying pressure to her neck," Dobson said.
Dobson said Patterson and the woman knew each other but declined to elaborate on their relationship in order to protect the woman's identity. The woman refused medical attention at the time of the incident, Dobson said.
Patterson was processed at the police station and arraigned in village court. He was released on his own recognizance to reappear in court at a later date.
An order of protection was issued for the victim.
