TUPPER LAKE - A local man was sentenced Monday to two to four years in state prison for stealing a Franklin County Social Services card.

William L. Roberts III, 34, of Tupper Lake, was arrested in October 2011 on two counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, class E felonies.

At the time, police said he was found in possession of a social services card and used the card to withdraw about $400 in cash from ATMs.

On Monday in Franklin County Court, Roberts pleaded guilty to one count of criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree as a second felony offender.

In addition to serving two to four years in prison, Franklin County Court Judge Robert Main Jr. sentenced him to pay $500 in restitution and a $2,500 fine.
