To the editor:
Working at a humane animal shelter teaches you a lot about human tears.
Tears of Joy watching playful dogs toss rubber balls about their cages or young kittens playing tag.
Tears of Hard Work as the duties of running a shelter are back-breaking and never-ending.
Tears of Heartbreak that well up in the eyes of even the most seasoned workers when seeing beautiful, playful balls of fur confront life's harsh realities that can include abandonment, hunger and loneliness.
And the occasional Tears of Rage when we confront the ugliest cases of animal cruelty and human disregard.
But that never deters us from our main mission of running the finest shelter we possibly can, day after day, month after month and year after year. We do it because we know we have ALWAYS made a huge difference in aiding the lives of thousands of pets who are in need of loving and protective homes.
We rely on the kind generosity of people who believe in our mission, people who really care. Your donations make this possible:
-A no-kill shelter that supports our "furry residents" every day until they are adopted, no matter how long it takes
-Ongoing facility improvements that support animal quality of life
-Special pet programs including protective immunizations, microchipping to aid in solving lost-pet cases and an effective spay-neuter program to help control the number of homeless animals
-A record of placing nearly 5,000 animals in good homes over the past 12 years.
But our mission is always at risk. The daily costs of food, medicine, fuel and supplies have escalated drastically. We need your financial support.
We pledge to always be there to protect our furry buddies who cannot defend themselves. We hope you can join us by donating as generously as possible. Your gift will make a huge difference.
Thank you so much.
