SARANAC LAKE - A Saranac Lake man has been sentenced to be on probation and pay restitution for his role in a string of burglaries last year in the town of Franklin.

Braylin Jones, 21, was originally charged with four counts of third-degree burglary for a series of break-ins in September and October of 2011 at residences on the Paye Road, Muzzy Road, Tyler Road and Fletcher Farm Road. He and an accomplice, Tucker R. Houghton, 20, of Vermontville, stole copper piping, a Playstation console and games, a wooden rocking chair, chainsaws and ballast lights, police said.

Appearing Thursday before Judge John Hall in Franklin County Court, Jones pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree attempted burglary, a class E felony, as part of a plea deal with the Franklin County District Attorney's Office.

Jones was sentenced to five years of felony probation and to share, with Houghton, in paying $1,400.30 in restitution and another $375 in fees and surcharges. Jones told the Enterprise his share comes to about $500.

Houghton pleaded guilty to the same charge in May, in a separate plea deal with the prosecution. He was sentenced to 45 days in jail, five years of probation, restitution and a $1,000 fine.

(Editor's note: Incorrect information about Jones' sentence, which the Enterprise received from the Franklin County district attorney's office, has been corrected.)
