SARANAC LAKE - Mayor Clyde Rabideau has appointed Molly Hann to a vacant seat on the village Planning Board.

Hann replaces D. Scott Tooker, a six-year veteran of the Planning Board who resigned last month because he said he didn't have the time and energy to continue serving.

Han lives in Saranac Lake and is an associate attorney at the Law Office of Erin E. Hayes, which has locations in Chestertown and Lake Placid. A recent graduate of the Vermont School of Law, Hann was a research associate for the Land Use Institute and took courses in land use planning. She has passed the New York bar exam and expects to be admitted to the New York bar in late January.

Hann was a member of the Saranac Lake Area Government Restructuring Committee, a group of local residents and elected officials who looked at ways to reduce the overlapping layers of government in the area and ultimately recommended the village pursue becoming a city. Hann's parents are Mary and Marty Shubert of Lake Placid.

"I've known Molly for many years and was very impressed that she recently worked her way through Vermont Law School while still living in Saranac Lake and caring for her family," Rabideau said in an email to the Enterprise. "Molly is passionate about Saranac Lake and making sure it remains sustainable. And, besides, I used to play poker with her grandfather, Hal 'The Iron Duke' Schubert on Wednesday nights in Plattsburgh and I know she comes from earnest and sturdy stock. She'll do a great job."

The village Board of Trustees approved Hann's appointment unanimously at its meeting Tuesday night.
