Malone rejects dissolving village

MALONE - Voters rejected a ballot measure to dissolve the village of Malone by an almost 2-to-1 margin Tuesday.

Unofficial results from the Franklin County Board of Elections show 1,117 voters in the village rejected the idea while 562 voters approved it.

In recent weeks, political signs on lawns all over Malone advocated for either lowering taxes by getting rid of the village or keeping the village and the services it offers.

One of the big concerns if the village were to be dissolved was that the village police department might have disappeared along with it. That would likely have left the area to be kept in order by state police, but the head of the area state police barracks had said there wouldn't be any added patrols and his staff wouldn't be able to adequately cover the area, according to the Plattsburgh-based Press-Republican newspaper.
