Thank for helping us help others

November 6, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor:

Thank you to the community and the staff of Adworkshop and Inphorm for opening your hearts, homes, cash registers and cupboards this past week. Each October, Adworkshop and Inphorm celebrates National Employee Ownership Month. This year marked our fifth anniversary as an ESOP (employee stock ownership plan), and to commemorate this agency milestone, our 30 employee owners decided to give back to the Adirondack communities that we call home.

We knew that with the holiday season approaching, our local food pantries could use a little extra love and support. On Oct. 18, our entire staff was split into teams of four, given $20 each and a directive to gather as much food, toiletries and baby items as we could in 90 minutes to benefit the Lake Placid Ecumenical Food Pantry. Teams scrambled around Lake Placid and Saranac Lake, asking for donations, raiding their own homes and gathering necessary items - before returning to Adworkshop to see how the other teams had fared.

The amount of food and non-perishable items we gathered in that short time span astounded and humbled us, and we cannot thank enough the businesses, organizations and individuals who quickly donated whatever they could spare.

Special thanks to Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort, Lisa G's, Liquids & Solids, ROOST, The Good Bite, Desperado's, Bazzi's, Jimmy's 21, Nicola's, Grand Union, Howard Johnson's, Kinney Drugs, Price Chopper, Spruce Lodge, High Peaks Dental, Courtyard Marriott, Dr. Murray dental, Mirror Lake Inn, Lake Placid Center for the Arts, WSLP, The Sugar Shack, Briggs Norfolk, Hoffman Auto and many private individuals. If we missed anyone - a special thanks to you as well.

The Lake Placid Ecumenical Food Pantry doesn't turn anyone away and is always looking for donations and volunteers. For more information, contact Linda Young, 518-523-9620, or send a monetary donation to the Ecumenical Food Pantry, P.O. Box 1475, Lake Placid, NY 12946. Assistance from the food pantry is entirely confidential.

Pass it on, pay it forward, and know that whatever you give, it makes a difference in your community.

Thank you again to all who participated and gave so generously.

Darcy Norfolk, president, and the entire team of employee owners
