As a team, the Red Storm girls finished second in the Class C competition behind Saranac.

"The girls team knew in order to win the team title they would have to break up the Saranac Central runners," said Saranac Lake coach Joe Merrihew. "They had them beat for the first half of the race, but Saranac had strength in numbers and snuck in girls in front of ours. They fought hard, and each girl came out of the race with personal best times. A great way to end their season."

Seton Catholic's Margaret Champagne won the girls race in 18:05, followed by Ashley Leta of Peru in 18:30 and Melissa Whyman of Seton Catholic in 19:09.

Jeriqho Gadway of Plattsburgh was the top boys runner, completing the 3.05-mile course in 15:14. Karl Schultz of Lake Placid finished 13th in 16:56, while Saranac Lake's Zane Pelletieri was 19th in 17:24 and teammate Max Paul was 23rd in 17:35.

"The boys put up a fight all season," Merrihew said. "They fought hard against teams two or three times our size, and did very well doing so."

The Red Storm placed fourth in the Class C team scoring with 195 points. Beekmantown won the boys title with 41 points, followed closely by Saranac with 43.
