To the editor:
Bill Owens has my vote on Nov. 6. As a longtime resident of New York, I'm looking for someone who can represent our values as well as our interests in Washington. Mr. Owens is a man of character who has made creating jobs and serving constituents the cornerstone of his (very short) political career. Before going to Washington, Owens served his community by working with local economic developers to create jobs, served with various community organizations and even coached Little League. Before that, he enlisted in the Air Force.
Mr. Owens' opponent spent most of his career on Wall Street. It appears he did very well for himself in New York City, but I believe he needs to spend more time here, away from Wall Street, before he will be prepared to represent a diverse set of interests that include farmers, many out-of-work individuals and a large number of veterans.
Mr. Owens came to our region more than 30 years ago with the Air Force and stayed to raise his family and run a business. By contrast, Mr. Doheny left northern New York to go to Wall Street and came back recently to run for Congress. Bill Owens has shown he is prepared to use his local experience to represent us in Washington, and that's why he has my vote in November.
