Owens has helped government work better

October 30, 2012

To the editor:

Most New Yorkers, whether they're farmers, business owners or family members, agree that sometimes the federal government does things that just don't make sense. Bill Owens has been fighting down in Washington to rein in the federal government when they're out of line, and that's why he has my vote.

Congressman Owens worked right away to turn back the Environmental Protection Agency when it tried to treat spilled milk on dairy farms the same way they treat oil spills. It didn't make sense, and he fought successfully to make it right. The same was true when the government took steps to prevent teenagers from working on their family farms. Again, Mr. Owens stepped up to defend local interests and common sense, keeping the government out.

A quick look at Bill Owens' website shows that he does a lot of this kind of work. He works with both sides to make government work better and drive real progress for New York. That's how I expect my representative to behave, and it's why I will be voting for Bill Owens on Nov. 6.
