Obamacare vote makes Owens not viable

October 29, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor:

When asked what is wrong with our government, Americans often point to high taxes and an overreaching government bureaucracy. Which law currently makes both of these problems worse? You guessed it: Obamacare.

There are 21 new or higher taxes in Obamacare. Why taxes were included in a health care bill is beyond comprehension. (Ask Nancy Pelosi!) One tax in the bill that is particularly devastating is the 2.3 percent tax on medical device manufacturers. Even Congressman Owens reluctantly admitted that due to this tax there may be "some job loss as a result." Why do we need to punish companies that are still producing products here in America? I do not want to see more of our companies ship jobs to China.

In addition, Obamacare creates a 15-member board that has the power to make binding decisions regarding what treatments Medicare will cover and how much Medicare will pay. This unelected board will act to restrict access to health care for seniors.

Sadly, our current congressman, Bill Owens, voted in favor of Obamacare. I personally cannot give my support to anyone that would vote for such dreadful law.
