UTICA - North Country Community College runners Josh Cook and Llaney Hernandez each placed in the top 10 on Saturday in Proctor Park.
Cook and Hernandez became the first two runners in the three-year history of NCCC cross country to be named to the all-region team. Cook completed the 8-kilometer course in 31:01.8 and Hernandez crossed the line in 31:11.8.
Tom Arcuri won the men's race in 30:14 to lead Mohawk Valley to the team championship. The Saints, who are ranked 10th in the the latest NJCAA national poll finished third in the team scoring with 116 points.
Other North Country finishers were Jeremy Jones (20th), Jordan Haviland (43rd), Zach Peltier (55th) and Chris Elliott (60th). A total of 62 men runners completed the course.
On the women's side, Kaylan Short was North Country's top runner, turning in her best race of the season for a time of 25:36 for 25th place on the 5-kilometer course. Teammate Clarissa Mango finished 38th in 27:50.
Mohawk Valley won the women's team championship with 45 points. Jesse Jacob of SUNY-Delhi won the women's race in 21:23.
The Saints' men's and women's teams will travel to SUNY-Delhi on Nov. 10 for the National Junior College Athletic Association championships.
