SARANAC LAKE - A native son will return home Thursday to get some laughs as part of the Upright Citizens Brigade's touring company.

Comedy writer Brandon Gardner, 30, graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 2001. His first taste of acting was taking a drama class in his senior year at SLHS and then performing in the spring musical, "Anything Goes."

He graduated from Binghamton University after majoring in theater and studying and performing with the sketch comedy troupe "The Pappy Parker Players."

After college, he moved to New York City and joined the Upright Citizens Brigade, a national improvisational comedy troupe started in the '90s by Amy Poehler and several colleagues.

Gardner has been there for about six years. When he's not touring college campuses with a show or acting in one of the two stationary shows he is part of at the group's NYC base, he also teaches at the Upright Citizens Bridge Theatre.

Also, according to Gardner's bio on the UCB website,, he's in a Connecticut commercial dressed as a deer.

The show will hit up North Country Community College tonight at 7 p.m. It's free, open to the public and will be in the college's S-19 lecture hall.
