To the editor:
I believe that Congressman Bill Owens should be re-elected in the 21st Congressional District. He represents what we need in Washington, someone who reaches across the political border to get the job done. That is what he has been doing in Washington. As a moderate Democrat, he joined a group of 17 Republicans and 23 Democrats to press getting the 2012 Farm Bill passed.
Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward stated, "It is my pleasure to officially endorse Bill Owens for Congress. Bill's intelligence, integrity and work ethic make him the right choice for Congress."
Bill Owens was endorsed by the NRA and received an A+ rating.
Bill Owens co-sponsored the Currency Reform Fair Trade Act, which would treat currency undervaluation as a prohibited export subsidy; the legislation would help even the playing field with our trade with China.
Bill served our country as a captain in the U.S. Air Force. He has a distinguished career as an attorney as a managing partner with Stafford, Owens, Piller, Murnane and Trombley.
When the Plattsburgh Air Force Base closed in 1995, he worked with others to create the Plattsburgh Airbase Redevelopment Corporation that has created more than 2,000 jobs since 1995.
Bill and his wife Jane have three children and four grandchildren. Bill loves his family and participated in coaching Little League baseball with his children. Bill has always worked to improve programs for youth.
When I talk with Bill, I hear a moderate talking about life and not politics. He believes that you only get things done when you work together and negotiate differences. When Bill talks about the North Country, you know that he will always call it home. Bill talks like a neighbor. He is!
