Crackin’ Foxy Saturday at Will Rogers

October 18, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake-based sextet Crackin' Foxy will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at Saranac Village at Will Rogers.

A ukulele-driven ensemble featuring close two-part vocal harmony and instrumental arrangements, the group is inspired by early 1930's swing. Influences include the Boswell Sisters, the Moonlighters, Bessie Smith, Cole Porter and Django Reinhardt as well as Vaudeville and Hawaiian music.

Mark Hofschneider founded the band in 2010 after his wife suggested he play less banjo and more ukulele. Hofschneider, bassist Pat McAvoy and clarinetist Zack Jacob arrange rhythms against swing tempos to highlight the voice harmonies of Shamim Allen and Sarah Curtis.
