TUPPER LAKE - Monica Leonard, 80, of Tupper Lake, passed away peacefully with her five children by her side on Oct. 10, 2012, at Riverledge Nursing Center in Ogdensburg after a five-year fight with Alzheimer's disease.

Monica was born in Tupper Lake on June 27, 1932, to Cecile and Albert LaLonde.

She was a 1950 graduate of T.L.H.S.

Monica was married, on Nov. 27, 1950, to Edgar Leonard. Edgar and Monica shared 38 years of marriage until he passed away on April 27, 1988.

She enjoyed vacations with her children and family to Florida, Canada and Arizona. Monica's life was dedicated to being a wife, mother and grandmother. She was happiest caring and loving them.

Monica is survived by her loving children: Joy York Stenz (Wally) of Jacksonville, Fla., Wayne (Debbie) of Tupper Lake, Jill Pickering of Tupper Lake, Joseph (Lise) of Maitland, Ont., and Scott of Raleigh, N.C.; loving grandchildren: Monica White, Tommy York, Jeremy Leonard, Christi Dukette, Melissa Leonard, Nikki Chesbrough, Bryan LaRoe, Raquel Leonard and Anthony Leonard; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Adele Hunkins of North Lawrence; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her love Edgar, and by siblings Violet Siegwart, Gloria Curry, Pauline Leonard, Albert LaLonde and Melvin LaLonde.

Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 24 Cliff Ave., Tupper Lake, with Mass to follow at 1 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Church. Internment will follow the mass at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
