LAKE PLACID (AP) - Tony Benshoof is coming back to USA Luge as a junior coach.
The most decorated men's luge athlete in the federation's history, Benshoof will be a co-head coach for the U.S. Junior National Team this season. He'll share the role with Fred Zimny, who also is the federation's recruiting and development manager.
The hires are effective immediately. On-ice training for USA Luge junior athletes is expected to start Monday in Lake Placid.
Benshoof won 37 international medals as an athlete and was fourth at the 2006 Turin Olympics. Back problems forced him to step away from competition after the 2010 Vancouver Games.
USA Luge CEO Ron Rossi says "his experience as an athlete was far too valuable to have sitting on the sideline."
