Chamber offers merchants French lessons, other aid

SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is offering seminars to help small businesses.

A French language seminar, geared especially for hospitality businesses, but appropriate for any business, is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 13, intended to help business people communicate with French-speaking Canadian tourists. The seminar is in partnership with Anne Sterling, owner of the Left Bank Cafe, who is bilingual in English and French. The seminar will be held at the Left Bank Cafe, 36 Broadway, with complimentary hors d'oeuvres and wine at a reduced rate.

Two additional seminars are planned in partnership with North Country Community College and Paul Smith's College. The first, set for 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 9, is titled "Successful Entrepreneurship 2012 for Small Business, Part 1" and will focus on seasonal marketing, marketing changes, using technology, best practices for small businesses and entrepreneurship. The second is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 16. Both will be held in room C-13 of McCormick Hall on the NCCC campus.
