SARANAC LAKE - A report of an overdue boat on Upper Saranac Lake triggered a search that involved state police and Saranac Lake firefighters Thursday.
Head Saranac Lake Fire Driver Rick Yorkey said the department received a report at 7 p.m. Thursday from The Point, 222 Beaver Wood Road, that an electric-powered boat containing several of the resort's guests was overdue.
One truck and 27 firefighters responded and began a search. They also used the department's rescue boat, which is parked on Upper Saranac, to try and find the boat.
Yorkey said the search was called off after about 40 minutes when firefighters learned the boat apparently had a mechanical issue and was left along the lake's shoreline while its occupants walked out to a road to get help. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters returned to the fire station by 8:35 p.m.
