To the editor:
As a frequent visitor to the Saranac Lake Adirondack region, I was excited to hear about ARTA's (Adirondack Recreational Trail Advocates') proposed new trail system connecting Lake Placid with Old Forge. Although canoeing is one of my preferred pastimes, I am equally enthused about walking, bird watching and biking. The current aged and unused train tracks appear to be the perfect location for these and other activities. It is thrilling to think of the beauty - yet to be seen - that would become available if the tracks become a 90-mile, alluring avenue for people to walk, bike and otherwise enjoy.
I am not involved in the politics surrounding this issue, nor do I wish to be. However, I do have one very important question: Why did it take so long to come up with such a fantastic idea?
