LAKE PLACID - Village police here are asking the public to help identify people connected with a pair of thefts last week.

The first larceny happened at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Adirondack Decorative Arts and Crafts, 2512 Main St. Police said in a press release that a white male, about 6 feet, 2 inches tall wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans, distracted a sales clerk at the store while another suspect or suspects went behind a display counter and stole about 24 pieces of display jewelry.

The jewelry stolen included a diamond solitaire ring, two sets of cuff links, about five sets of broaches and miscellaneous jeweled rings, according to police. It couldn't be determined this morning how much the stolen jewelry is worth.

Then, at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, police said three people - two Latino men and one Latino woman - entered Placid Planet Bicycles, 2242 Saranac Ave., and stole a Trek Speed Concept road bicycle. Police said the woman distracted employees while the men stole the bicycle.

"Once the Trek bike was taken the suspects placed a different bike in its location attempting to make the theft less obvious," police said in the press release.

Police said the thefts "may or may not be connected." Anyone with information on the suspects' identities or the stolen goods is asked to contact village police at 518-523-3306.
