To the editor:
The Carpenter Foundation (article Sept. 8) is a wonderful example of community-minded generosity that, thanks to savvy planning, will create annual gifts for the things important to the donor.
It's important for people to know that you don't need to be a financial genius or a millionaire to create a lasting legacy that will carry out your charitable wishes. The Adirondack Community Trust is home to more than 200 funds of different sizes, most of which behave much the way stand-alone foundations do. The difference is that ACT handles administration and investment so that donors can focus entirely on the fun part: making grants that "give back" to our local communities, and beyond. Funds continue giving in perpetuity, according to the donor's goals.
As a group, these personalized funds make an average of nearly $2 million in grants each year. Banding together in generosity is a powerful way to give to the things you care most about. Learn more at GenerousACT.org.
