LAKE PLACID - The Wild & Scenic Film Festival, based in Nevada City, Calif., claims to be the largest environmental film festival in North America. Its touring mini-version, which goes all over the country, will come to Lake Placid for the second consecutive year next Friday and Saturday evenings, Sept. 21 and 22.
It's again brought here by the Placid Lake Foundation, which was founded in 1993 as a nonprofit land conservancy to preserve and protect the shoreline, viewshed and watershed of this village's namesake lake for future generations.
This year's local festival showcases many of the Wild & Scenic films on tour, plus special guest film director Ben Stechshulte who will present his new Four Seasons edition of the local Adirondack film, "Small Farm Rising." Afterward, Stechshulte will lead an interactive question-and-answer panel discussion with local farmers from the film.

Other special events during this year's festival will be an opening party Friday at the High Peaks Adventure Guide House and a reception and silent auction Saturday before the screenings at the LPCA.
"Our goal for this event is to raise environmental awareness while providing an entertaining evening for the greater Lake Placid community," PLF Executive Director Christian Weber said in a press release.
