MASSENA - Mary Elizabeth Mose, 86, of Paul Smiths, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena.
Born in Fort Covington on Nov. 12, 1925, she was the daughter of Simon and Elizabeth (McKillop) Smith.
Mary owned and operated the Red Mill Restaurant in Paul Smiths for 25 years. Prior to that she had attended St. Joseph's School, where she received her LPN degree. After receiving her degree, she worked for Massena Memorial Hospital. Mary was a member of the Saranac Lake VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Church of the Assumption in Gabriels.
She is survived by one daughter, Kelly Grimm of Dickinson Center; one son, Gregory Mose of Paul Smiths; two brothers: Francis Smith of Rochester and M. Emmet Edgar Smith of Syracuse; one sister, Sr. Mary Ellen (Anna) Smith of New Rochelle; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and two brothers, Simon and Alton Smith.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012. A VFW Ladies Auxiliary service will take place at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at Church of the Assumption in Gabriels. Burial will take place at Mt. View Cemetery, Gabriels. A reception will follow at the home of Margaret Pierce, 216 State Route 86, Paul Smiths.
