RAY BROOK - An ongoing recreation planning initiative and a decision on a cell tower project in Crown Point are among the agenda items at this week's state Adirondack Park Agency meeting, scheduled for Thursday and Friday at the agency's headquarters.

The full agency will convene at 9 a.m. Thursday for Executive Director Terry Martino's monthly report. Then Chairwoman Lani Ulrich will review the 2012-13 board meeting calendar.

At 9:30 a.m., the Regulatory Programs Committee will consider a proposal from Verizon Wireless to build a 115-foot, simulated-tree tower in Crown Point. The committee will also hear a status report on a previously approved project that allowed for the treatment of Lake Luzerne with an aquatic herbicide to control Eurasian watermilfoil.

The Local Government Services Committee will meet at 11 a.m. for an informational presentation on amendments to APA approved local land-use programs.

At 1 p.m., the Park Policy and Planning Committee will be updated on the progress of the Adirondack Partnership Recreation Work Group Initiative. Dan Kelleher, the APA's special assistant for economic affairs, will provide an overview of the partnership's recreation planning effort and discuss the need for recreation planning and sustainable tourism development in the Park. Jim McKenna, CEO of the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism, will discuss tourism development.

At 2 p.m., the state Department of Environmental Conservation will provide an overview of The Nature Conservancy acquisition plan to the agency's State Land Committee. The committee will then hear a first reading of the Watson's East Triangle Unit Management Plan amendment, followed by an implementation report for the St. Regis Canoe Area Unit Management Plan.

At 9 a.m. Friday, the Local Government Service Committee will review and possibly approve the town of Day's local land-use program amendment.

At 9:45, the Economic Affairs Committee will convene for a presentation on local wood products manufacturing. Donna Wadsworth, communications manager for International Paper's Ticonderoga mill, will discuss operations at that facility and its impact on the local economy and the forestry industry.

At 10:30, the Public Awareness and Communication Committee will hear an informational presentation from the Wildlife Conservation Society's North American director, Jodi Ann Hilty.

At 11:30, the full agency will convene to take action as necessary, and the meeting will conclude with committee reports, and public and member comment.

Meeting materials and a live webcast are available on the agency's website, www.apa.ny.gov.
