August 30, 2012
By the Enterprise staff , Adirondack Daily Enterprise

Two Tri-Lakes communities will host outdoor movies next week.

The Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce is showing the 2010 animated feature "Despicable Me," which is rated PG, on Thursday, Aug. 30 at Little Wolf Beach.

The movie will begin between 8:45 and 9 p.m. There is no charge, but the Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce, which is organizing the event, is accepting donations to offset its costs in putting on the movie.

The movie will only be shown if the weather is good. For more information, go to www.tupper-lake.com.

The following night, Friday, Aug. 31, the village of Saranac Lake will show its final outdoor movie for the summer. The 1971 classic "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory," starring Gene Wilder, will be the feature presentation at 8:30 p.m. in Berkeley Green. It's rated G.

Along with the movie, the village has announced a "Golden Ticket" contest in which the winner will receive two complimentary round-trip airline tickets courtesy of Cape Air. From Monday, Aug. 27 through Friday, Aug. 31, Downtown Saranac Lake stickers will be sold at a different participating downtown business each day for $5. A total of 200 stickers will be available for purchase. Each sticker will have a "Golden Ticket" affixed to the back with a number.

The winning ticket number will be randomly chosen during the movie. The ticket holder must be present to win. In addition to the contest, there will be surprises for children as well.

Each morning, the participating business where stickers are sold will be announced on the Downtown Saranac Lake Facebook page www.facebook.com/downtownsaranaclake. Any stickers not sold by 6 p.m. the day of the movie will be available for purchase in Berkeley Green prior to the screening.

Proceeds from the contest will be used for future movie nights and other Downtown Saranac Lake events and promotional efforts.

This will be the third outdoor movie held in Downtown Saranac Lake this summer. The first two, "The Wizard of Oz" and "E.T. the Extraterrestrial," each drew more 100 people.
