To the editor:
I was most distressed to learn of Rep. Owens' opposition to raising the minimum wage. A raise in the minimum wage would be a most effective way to stimulate our languid economy and spur the health of small businesses across the nation.
The well-to-do tend to save their excess(ive) money. They can afford to do so. Our less fortunate folk must spend their money immediately and usually locally. They have no other choice. Raising the minimum would pour more funds into our economy and give it an immediate and strong boost. Small business would gain new customers with money to spend.
Perhaps it would be beneficial to require our congresscritters to take a course in Economics 101, and Compassion 101, since they don't seem to realize how difficult it must be to live on the minimum wage.
