‘Shipwrecked!’ takes the stage at Pendragon

August 16, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

SARANAC LAKE - "Shipwrecked! The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougement" (as told by himself) opened at Pendragon Theatre Wednesday.

This family-friendly play tells the tale of the real life Louis de Rougemont and his incredible 30 years adventure in the Australian outback after being lost at sea.

Pulitzer Prize playwright Donald Marguiles creates a colorful, fanciful canvas that the New York Times labeled "a theatrical pop-up book." When asked if he had a particular "aesthetic" in mind, he replied: "It gets everyone to play again. People who maybe have lost that sense of play and have forgotten how enjoyable it could be to just imagine things. That was my objective."

Bob Pettee plays Louis de Rougement, the Victorian adventurer and yarn spinner. Mackenzie Barmen and Tyler Nye play multiple characters including children, society gossips, aborigines, scientists and Bruno, the dog.

Karen Kirkham, Pendragon's incoming Executive and Artistic Director, directs the highly imaginative production. She continues her long-time collaboration with award winning Set Designer, Tijana Bjelajac. Alexis Foster, Costume Designer at SUNY Potsdam, outfits all of the characters.

Current technical director and succeeding managing director David Zwierankin is the lighting designer.

"Shipwrecked!" will be on stage Aug. 16, 18, 21, 24, 25, 30, 31 and Sept. 1 at 8 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 19 is a 2 p.m. matinee.

"Shipwrecked!" joins "Pinocchio," "The Last Five Years" and "So In Love: Cole Porter Cabaret," already in repertory.

Pendragon's new ticketing system allows patrons to see available seats and to purchase tickets online by visiting the website at www.pendragontheatre.org.
