FORT COVINGTON - A 64-year-old woman was in jail Wednesday after allegedly stabbing her live-in boyfriend because they were in a fight, police said.
Joan F. Terrel, of Fort Covington, was charged with first-degree assault Wednesday and arraigned in front of Fort Covington town Justice Clayton Almond and remanded to the custody of the Franklin County Sheriff's Office in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
Police said they originally responded to the couple's home on 2556 Chateaugay St. in Fort Covington to help the rescue squad there with a subject who had reportedly fallen out of bed. Terrel's boyfriend, Wayne J. Henault, 64, was found with a small puncture wound to his back, police said, and when he was taken to Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone for treatment, it was discovered that the wound resulted from being stabbed. Henault was taken for emergency surgery.
Police said Terrel stabbed Henault with a knife when the two got in a fight.
