SARANAC LAKE - The 57th annual "Come to the Fair," a popular summer event held at the Saranac Lake Free Library, 109 Main St., will offer thousands of hardcover and paperback books for sale, along with videos, DVDs, audiobooks, white elephant items, jewelry, puzzles and toys.
Attendees will enter at the back of the library. Special books, including art, cookbooks, gardening, music, old collectibles, and very new, are featured in the Dickert Room. The Community Room will be filled with books: fiction and nonfiction, adult and children's books--and an extensive selection of white elephant items, jewelry, puzzles and toys. Baked goods will also be sold in the Community Room Opening Day until all items are sold.

A special opening for those who have contributed to the 2012 Membership Campaign at the supporting $35 level or higher will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, as the board's way of saying thank you for yearly financial support of the library. Books and white elephant items will be for sale that evening.
The Adirondack Research Room will be selling many duplicate Adirondack books in the Dickert Room during Members Night, and all day Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 7 to 8, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Come early for the best selection.
Visit the Picnic Cafe from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Aug. 7, opening day, to purchase a hot dog lunch outside. Enjoy a hot dog, chips and a drink for $3.
Fair theme honors Carousel
This year the committee has chosen "Salute to the Adirondack Carousel" as its theme celebrating Saranac Lake's exciting, new attraction.
A silent auction of an attractive, maple library card catalog case and a magazine rack will add to the fun of the fair. The two-layer card catalog case offers a convenient way to store a variety of items, such as craft materials, handyman tools or bottles of wine. Bids will run throughout the fair.
The Fair Committee, coordinated by Gloria Drucker, includes Bobbie Leamer, room set up and break down; Diane Peterson, Joan Tyler, Ruth Fortune and Bobbie Leamer, day/evening chairs; Holly Huber, cashiers; Gloria Drucker, Treasurer.
Also, Joan Donaldson and Jessica Deeb, baked goods; Linda Jackson and Liz Johnson, toys; Barbara Plumadore, white elephant items and jewelry; Merle Smith and Karen Smith, mass market paperbacks; Bobbie Leamer, Janet Lorenzo, Don Morgan and Gloria Drucker, Community Room books; Ruth Fortune, children's books; Michele Tucker, Adirondack books; Holly Huber, audio/video; Joy Harvey, special books.
Other chairs are Adam Brayshaw, Members Night; Richard Leamer, Picnic Cafe; Pat Wiley and Peggy Orman, publicity; Merle Smith, window poster.
Everyone is encouraged to search attics, jewelry boxes, closets, and toy bins for enticing, quality goods for the white elephant, jewelry and toys sections. Jewelry may be dropped at the library anytime. White elephant items and toys may be brought to the Community Room from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4.
Baked goods will be received after 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7, opening day.
Please, no more books until after the summer sale, as the committee is busy sorting the books that have already been dropped off.
Book prices will remain the same, with hardcovers selling for $1.75, and paperbacks for 75 cents. Special books will be individually priced. Children's hardcovers will sell for 50 cents; soft covers are 25 cents; and newer, green-dot items are $1.
The fair is a community event that involves hundreds of people who contribute items, bake their specialties, set up and volunteer at the sale and, of course, come to the fair! All proceeds benefit the Saranac Lake Free Library.
