RAY BROOK - Water levels are low, and boaters should take precautions on the Saranac chain of lakes system, the state Department of Environmental Conservation warned Friday.
Water levels are low throughout the region, but DEC recommends that large boats keep away from the Saranac River between the Lower Locks and Second Pond to avoid running aground.
DEC advises boaters and paddlers to reduce speed, be more alert, avoid known shallow areas and be cautious along shorelines and around shoals, rocks, stumps, limbs and other navigation hazards that may be exposed or just below the water surface.
