LAKE CLEAR - William Francis Martin, 92, of Lake Clear, died on Saturday, July 7, 2012, after injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on August 20, 1919, in Balston Spa, and was the son of the late Walter F. Martin and Gladys Laramy Martin.
Mr. Martin had lived in Lake Clear since his retirement from Niagara Mohawk Power Corp in 1980. He was a World War II Marine veteran, having served overseas from 1941-1944. After the war, he enjoyed camping in Fish Creek and later had a platform camp on Floodwood Pond. When the state terminated the platform permit program, Mr. Martin purchased property on Forest Home Road and later Hoel Pond Road. He enjoyed the Adirondacks and all the area had to offer.
He was the husband of the late Shirley Vivian (Veino) Martin who died in 2005; father of William Neil (Deborah Lee) Martin of Saranac Lake, and Susan Vivian (Gregg) Martin VanDermark of Clifton Park; grandfather of Ryan K. (Chasity) Martin and Jamie L. Martin; and great-grandfather of Blair Martin and Brody Martin.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2012, at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9, Clifton Park, NY. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012, at the funeral home.
Interment with full military honors will be held in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie.
