SARANAC LAKE - Carl R. Puccini, 88, of 50 Fish Hatchery Road, Saranac Lake, died Monday, July 9, 2012, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Born in Saranac Lake on Sept. 17, 1923, he was the son of Carlo and Rachael (Douglass) Puccini.
Carl married Raphael Louis on June 4, 1947, in St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake. She predeceased him on March 22, 2010.
Carl had co-owned and operated the Colonial Inn from 1947 to 1950. He worked at the Colonial Inn as a bartender and continued to work as a bartender for various area bars and restaurants. He was also employed by the New York State Sanatorium in Ray Brook and worked for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in Lake Clear. He later attended and graduated from Aircraft Technology School. Following his graduation, Carl work for various airlines as an aircraft mechanic until his retirement. Carl enjoyed woodworking and the great outdoors.
Carl is a veteran of the Unites States Marine Corps serving during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He participated in action against the enemy in the Pacific at Roi and Naniur, Kwajalein Atol, and the Marshall Islands.
He is survived by six children: Johnette Zsedely and her husband, Denes, of Bridgeport; Peter Puccini of Rochester; Christopher Puccini and his wife, Debbie, of Steubenville, Ohio; Michael Puccini of Saranac Lake; Jeffrey Puccini and his wife, Nichole, of Boardman, Ohio; and Joseph Puccini of Saranac Lake; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two sister; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Nicholas and Timothy Puccini, and one great-granddaughter.
Calling hours will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 13, at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at St. John's Church in Lake Clear with the Rev. Mark Reilly officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Lake Clear.
