Old rail line is now power company property

July 10, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor:

I am writing in response to the gentleman from Voorheesville, Mr. Longale. He is using incorrect information to state "facts" to try to make his point.

The real fact of the matter is that the rail corridor from Lake Clear to Malone is private property and is one of the few rights-of-way that is owned by the power company. The power company has posted that property, and any trespassers caught will be ticketed and fined. It is due to legal liability. No one is allowed to use this property with the exception of the snowmobile clubs that carry insurance policies. If the ATV riders formed a club and did the same, they would probably be allowed to use it as well.

So, I'm sorry Mr. Longale, but your "facts" are inaccurate, which seems to be typical of the people that are against the recreational trail hopefuls. It also makes me question the accuracy of your statement about the Adirondack Scenic Railroad "carrying over one million passengers."
