SARANAC LAKE -Two days into the United States Masters Swimming National Championships, Saranac Lake's Tom Kilroy has already achieved his goal of finishing in the top 10 twice.
Competing in the 70-74-year-old age division at the event in Omaha, Neb. at the 17.000-seat CenturyLink Center, Kilroy has captured a pair of 9th-place finishes with three events still left on his plate.
On Thursday, he grabbed 9th in the 800 freestyle with a finish time of 17 minutes and 1.65 seconds. He followed that with another 9th-place effort Friday in the 50-meter freestyle, turning in a finish time of 38.53 seconds.
Kilroy, who turns 70 next week, will have today off from competition, and will conclude his swimming at the national championships with a very busy slate on Sunday. On his final day in the pool, he will race in the 50-meter breast stroke and both the 200- and 400-meter freestyle.
The U.S. Masters Swimming National Championships are being held in the 17,000-seat CenturyLink Center, which is the same venue where the U.S. Olympic trials wrapped up on Monday.
