TUPPER LAKE - Hans J. Corneille, 91, of Tupper Lake, passed away peacefully at his home on June 24, 2012. He was surrounded by people who loved and cared for him.
He was born on Sept. 22, 1920, in Landau, Germany, where he lived and worked, also serving in World War II, and became a civilian physician in the U.S. Air Force. In 1957, he immigrated to the United States. He worked as a physician in several New York hospitals, then in 1959 began his work in psychiatry at the Middletown State Hospital. In 1965, he moved to Tupper Lake and became the assistant director, then the chief of service at Sunmount State School/Sunmount Developmental Center, where he worked until 1986. He also had a private practice. He then moved to Dannemora where he worked in Forensic Services at the Clinton Correctional Facility until 2000 when he retired from the state and moved back to Tupper Lake.
He was predeceased in 2009 by his wife, Monika M. Corneille of Boston.
Surviving him are his loving daughters: Iris M. Corneille-Batson and husband Ramon of Redding, Conn., Nicole M. Corneille-Herzog, husband George; and granddaughters: Tyler and Summer of Edison, N.J., and Michele R.C. Evans (Corneille), her husband Daniel; and granddaughters: Sara and Jessica of Waddington; also his longtime and devoted companion Beverly Brownell of Tupper Lake.
