On track with the Adirondack Scenic Railroad

May 30, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

The Adirondack Scenic Railroad's Adirondack High Peaks Wilderness Train adventure is a 20-mile round-trip from Lake Placid station to Saranac Lake Union Depot. Visitors can depart from either station.

Passengers are encouraged to take the time to walk through the historic village of Saranac Lake or the Olympic village of Lake Placid before heading back. They can spend the day or just a few hours - 45 minutes each way with a 30-minute layover.

While in Saranac Lake, take a tour of beautiful Saranac Lake village and its historic districts or the popular Saranac Lake River Walk. Stroll through the business district and check out the many quaint shops on your way back to the Union Depot.

Saranac Lake's Union Depot was built in 1904 by the Delaware & Hudson Railroad, consolidating the passenger operations of the Chateaugay Railroad from the east, and the New York Central Railroad from the west.?This depot is on the same site as the old Chateaugay depot, which was moved across the tracks and attached to the old freight house as an office.
