To the editor:
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week. CAREE (Community Alliance for Responsible Excellence in Education) would like to thank all the teachers in the Lake Placid Central School District for all they do for our children. We would especially like to thank and recognize the special care not only the middle/high school teachers showed to our children last week but all staff in the middle/high school. Our children experienced the harsher side of life with the loss of former LPCS student Jackie Boyer.
First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. We would like to thank Mr. Mayberry for his thoughtful phone message so all parents were quickly made aware of the situation and could be prepared to support their children. We would like to thank the Guidance Office team for allowing their office to serve as the hub for those most impacted. We would like to thank all the adults who helped our children and recognized that last week could not be school as usual for some of the students. They allowed the kids the space they needed - to grieve together, share memories together and contemplate all that a person does when faced with such a loss. You truly supported and educated our children through one of life's most difficult experiences, and for that we are extremely appreciative.
We look forward to all the rest of the year has to offer to our students and hope you all have an amazing finish to the school year.
