Five options for next year’s Winter Carnival theme

March 30, 2012
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

SARANAC LAKE - Community members will once again have a chance to vote on next year's Saranac Lake Winter Carnival theme.

Carnival Committee members chose five potential themes Wednesday, and they're asking the public for input.

At their annual organizational meeting at the Saranac Lake High School, committee members pooled together a list of more than 30 theme ideas, some that were resubmitted from past years and some that were collected fresh from the community this year.

With each member casting three votes, five theme ideas rose to the top. In alphabetical order, they are: Age of Aquarius (1960s), Celtic Carnival, Fiesta, Under the Big Top and Under the Sea.

People interested in voting for their favorite of the five can either contact a committee member or submit a vote online on the Winter Carnival Facebook page or through the contact section on the Carnival's website, www.saranaclakewintercarnival.com.

It is also tradition in Saranac Lake for readers of the Adirondack Daily Enterprise to vote for their favorite theme in one of the paper's upcoming online polls at www.adirondackdailyenterprise.com. The Winter Carnival Committee will use the poll results to make its final decision on the 2013 theme.

The poll will run on the Enterprise website from April 9 to 16, after Saranac lake area residents return from their two-week spring break from school.

"People should be able to find a way for their opinion to be heard," said Carnival Chairman Jeff Dickson.

Votes will be tallied in time for the committee's April meeting, where meembers will make a final decision.

Also at the organizational meeting, the committee re-elected its three officers for 2013 Carnival: Jeff Dickson as chairman, Evie Field as secretary, and Cynthia Martino as treasurer.

The 2013 Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Recognition Dinner was held Wednesday at the Moose Club.
