Police and firefighters were called to what was described as a fatal car-pedestrian accident in Lake Placid Friday night.

The accident happened on Saranac Avenue, state Route 86, in front of Kinney Drugs and the Price Chopper supermarket around 6:30 p.m., according to state Trooper John Moody. He told the Enterprise it was a fatal accident but said no further information would be available for several more hours, as investigators were still at the scene.

The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department and Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service responded, along with state police.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was reportedly performed on the victim, who was rushed to Adirondack Medical Center in Lake Placid.

A Price Chopper employee who answered the phone said she had been told by customers coming into the store that someone had died and that the road was blocked off.

Police and firefighters were still at the scene as of 8:30 p.m.
