TUPPER LAKE - The Big Tupper Ski Area is open today, and officials are hoping to stay open through the rest of the week.
President's Day week is winter break for Tupper Lake school kids and a number of nearby schools as well.
The ski area is being run on a mostly volunteer basis with no snowmaking, so it's had a rough time this mostly snowless winter. The mountain was open on Sunday for the first time since its opening day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day in January. Big Tupper officials said there were about 120 skiers Sunday.
They hope to stay open through the week, but they may have trouble if forecasted warmer temperatures hit midweek.
The mountain will have Chair 2 and eight or nine groomed trails open today, according to the Big Tupper ski report Twitter feed, @BTSkiReport.
When it's running, the mountain is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
