Asian Buffet to reopen Saturday

SARANAC LAKE - A local restaurant that's been closed since mid-December due to water damage will reopen this weekend.

The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday to celebrate the reopening of the Asian Buffet Hibachi and Sushi on Lake Flower Avenue.

The restaurant, owned by Linda Celeste Li-Zheng and Jian Shan Zheng of Potsdam, has been closed since Dec. 19, when the building's sprinkler system malfunctioned. Several thousand gallons of water got into the building before the sprinkler system could be shut down. The water damaged the restaurant's fire alarm system, and the village deemed the building unsafe for occupation until it could be repaired.

"Linda and her family have made a substantial investment in our community by taking an old metal building and transforming it into a great, family-friendly dining facility," chamber of commerce Executive Director Sylvie Nelson said in a press release. "We were all saddened to hear about their troubles, but now, we urge the community to support them as they reopen on Saturday."

The Asian Buffet first opened for business in September 2010. The Zhengs operate similar restaurants in Ogdensburg, Gouverneur, Massena and Potsdam.
