Library lunch: ‘The Culture of Education in China’

SARANAC LAKE - Judith Coopy, professor, writer and lecturer, will present "The Culture of Education in China: its Dominance on the life and future of children born under the one-child policy" at noon Thursday, Feb. 2 in the Cantwell Community Room of the Saranac Lake Free Library.

Coopy graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio in 1993, with a BA in Spanish and from Kent State University, Ohio, 1995 with an MA in English. Over the years, she has written a number of research papers and published several books and articles including: College English Intensive Reading, 1991, Intensive English Speaking, 1998, "My Little Boy," Hearth Magazine, 1994 and "Writing is more than Jotting down Words," Pilgrim Magazine, 2005. She is also a published poet.

From 1997 to 2009, Coopy lived in China, teaching English as a second language at Guangdong College of Education, Guangdong Polytechnic University, Zhongshan University and Guangdong University of Business Studies. She has lectured on writing, reading and speaking English for numerous organizations and was honored with an Excellence in Teaching award at Guangdong University in 2003.

Those attending are encouraged to bring soup or sandwich and enjoy a dessert and beverage provided by the Refreshment Committee.
