SARANAC LAKE - The Enterprise has produced a slide show featuring images of the two biggest news stories of 2011, as voted on by newsroom staff; you can watch it in the video window on the right side of this article.
"The Year of the Floods" looks back at the spring floods that hit Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake and other local communities, as well as Tropical Storm Irene, which devastated towns along the AuSable River system.
Produced by Outdoors Writer Mike Lynch and narrated by Senior Staff Writer Chris Knight, the 10-minute slide show features hundreds of pictures taken by Enterprise staff members while covering both disasters, as well as photos from other contributors. Using these images, the production describes the impact of these two historic floods, how people in the affected communities rallied together to respond, and how, months later, people are still dealing with the aftermath of each flood.
Tropical Storm Irene was voted the top news story of 2011 by newsroom staff, followed by the spring floods, as part of the newspaper's annual "Year in Review" section, inserted in the Friday, Dec. 30 issue of the newspaper.
