ALBANY - The state Department of Environmental Conservation has appointed a new assistant commissioner for natural resources.
Kathleen Moser replaces Christopher Amato, who stepped down earlier this month to resume practicing law. DEC spokesman Michael Bopp said in an email to the Enterprise that Moser took over the post Dec. 8.
In her new role, Moser will oversee management decisions involving the state Forest Preserve, which accounts for close to half of the Adirondack Park's 6 million acres.
According to DEC officials, Moser has an "extensive background in environmental and wildlife conservation." Before being named assistant commissioner, she worked for the U.S. Peace Corps and held leadership posts with the Nature Conservancy and the World Wildlife Fund.
